A return to slow traditions
At Flock, we are relearning the lost art and skill of transforming sheep skin into a soft yet durable leather through our on-farm micro-tannery.
Using our hands and salvaged machines along with Zeology tanning we are preserving the skin for many years to come. No two pieces of leather are ever the same.
Celebrate the individuality & unique character.
The Process
I see Leather as a form of preservation. The process involves fleshing, de-wooling, pickling, tanning and dyeing takes approx. 55 hours, excluding drying time. It's a slow process done single handedly by Carrie.

Raw MaterialThe raw material for our leather comes straight off the farm, from our micro-abattoir. It's a short stride across the path into the tannery.

Mill & softenOnce the dyed and dried leather is complete, I can choose to mill the skins. This is a process where the skins tumble in the large drum, time depending the level of softness required. The mechanical action of tumbling is what softens them.
